CYTAVIS was founded in 2005 after the acquisition of the assets of Viscum AG, which had already characterized viscumin from mistletoe and had produced a recombinant version, the so-called r-Viscumin or Aviscumine. Aviscumine has been extensively tested in in vitro and in vivo studies, including three Phase I studies in solid tumors and a Phase I/II study in superficial bladder cancer. Aviscumine proves to be safe and well tolerated in all studies; in respect to anti-tumor activity stable diseases and remissions were observed.
